An unordered list — ordinary Markdown, with one canonical marker.

Canonical form is the - bullet and a one-space item indent. * and +
bullets are read and become - on the next save; a two- or four-space indent
becomes one space.
An item is a paragraph carrying a list style, so everything a paragraph holds an item holds too, and a block nested under an item is written the native way — indented, never with an indent comment.
An item's trailing <!--sb align="…"--> comment is kept verbatim and draws
nothing: alignment is read on a paragraph with no list role.
An item whose text is [ ] or [x] is a to-do, not a bullet. In a
widget or the sidebar an item that is one link and nothing else is a block
rather than a sentence.
